The U-Pass program is a mandatory, all zone access transit pass for all eligible UBC and affiliate (Regent College)
students. The U-Pass benefit is included your Regent Student Fees ($152/term), and is mandatory when registered for
3 or more credit hours (and optional at 3 or more audit hours) in a given semester.
The Compass Card is a durable, reloadable electronic fare card that you will load your U-Pass benefit to each month.
FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO OBTAIN YOUR UBC CARD AND ACCESS YOUR U-PASS BENEFIT:
STEP 1: OBTAIN UBC STUDENT CARD
Visit the Carding Office inside the UBC Bookstore to collect your UBC Student ID Card. Present your
government-issued photo ID, tell them you are a Regent Student and they will issue your UBC Card.
STEP 2: PICK UP YOUR COMPASS CARD
After registering for classes, your Regent ID will appear on the U-Pass ID List (on the Regent website, under
Once your Regent ID is on the list and you have your UBC Card, swipe your card at the Compass Card
dispensing machine in the UBC Bookstore to collect your Compass Card.
STEP 3: SIGN UP FOR AN AFFILIATE CWL ACCOUNT
• Visit www.cwl.ubc.ca
• Scroll down to Getting Started/Create a CWL Account
• Proceed through and select AFFILIATE as your account type
• Enter your details and create a login and password
o Your UBC Affiliate number is your 8-digit UBC student number (see UBC card)
o Your default password is your date of birth in the format YYMMDD
**Write this information down in a safe place! You will access it each month**
STEP 4: LINK YOUR U-PASS BENEFIT TO YOUR COMPASS CARD
• Sign into upassbc.translink.ca
• Select University of British Columbia as your school
• Enter your CWL login and password
• Request your U-Pass BC Benefit for the upcoming month
*After the 16th of each month, you need to link your U-Pass benefit*
o Carry your UBC Card in conjunction with your Compass when riding public transit. Translink may fine
o Keep your card safe! Currently the only place to receive a replacement card is downtown at the Stadium
